How far in advance do I have to book my tour?
We have two options for booking:
1. Book in advance by using the on-line booking and payment system, found on this site with each tour description. We highly encourage guests to book-ahead to ensure you have a spot on the tour! On-line booking closes 1 hour before each tour departure time.
2. Last minute online booking closes 1-hour before each tour departure time. Guests who who want to book within 1 hour of the tour start time should call (252) 489-5959 to be advised on availability. Please do not just show up as we do not operate the tour if we do not have confirmed advance registrations. Last minute bookings are cash-only payments, and must be in the exact amount. Our guides do not carry cash and cannot make change. For security purposes, guides are unable to accept credit card payments over the phone/in-person at check in.
When and where do I check in for my tour?
Check-in is at the intersection of Queen Elizabeth Ave. & Budleigh Street (399 Queen Elizabeth Ave.) There is a green information "kiosk" with event flyers posted in it, next to parking lot. Tour start times listed are departure times. Please check-in no later than 10 minutes prior to tour time. We start checking in guests 30 minutes prior to tour start time. Adult guests on tasting tours must bring valid ID to check-in.
Where do I park when I arrive for my tour?
All town parking is free. There are several lots as well as plenty of on-street parking in the downtown, or head over the small bridge to Roanoke Island Festival Park. During busy summer times, you may have to walk 5-10 minutes from parking to check-in; we encourage guests to plan to arrive in Manteo allowing ample time to park, restroom use, and walking to check-in.
Are underage members of my party allowed to tag along on adult beverage tasting tour?
All guests must be at least 21 years of age on tours which include alcohol (including non-drinking guests). Guests are required to show ID at tour check in. Venues reserve the right to refuse service. There are no refunds for booking under-aged guests or “forgetting” to bring appropriate ID. No babies/children permitted. Product is available for purchase at several locations at end of tasting.
Do tour guides accept tips?
Fees do not include tips. While extending gratuities is not mandatory, it certainly is appreciated. Guests may wish to bring cash in order to leave tips for your tour guide, as well as any wait staff, servers, or bartenders as applicable on food/beverage tours. Tour guides may be tipped in person at the end of the tour.
What should I wear on my tour? Is there anything I ned to bring?
Please be sure to bring a full water bottle, as well as sun protection – hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking & casual clothing appropriate for the weather– bring a jacket/sweater for cooler weather and an umbrella if the weather looks questionable. Cameras are welcome! (However, recording or videotaping of our tours or tour guides is prohibited.) Ghost tour guests are encouraged to bring a camera or cell phone w/camera with a fully charged battery; you won't want to miss a paranormal photo because your battery died!
How intense are the walking tours?
All tours are guided. Tours are comfortably paced with stops along the way. Distances vary by tour ranging from ½ mile to 1 ½ miles, comprised of sidewalks, cobblestone walks, boardwalks, and streets; many surfaces may not be level. Tours may not be suited for those who cannot stand/be on their feet for 1-1.5 hours or those with physical limitations that make walking distances difficult. Are pets allowed on the tours?
With the exception of legitimate service dogs, animals are not permitted on tours.
Will a bathroom be available during my tour?
Public restrooms are accessible throughout the tour.
Can I participate in a tasting tour with a food allergy?
For tours which include food/beverages: It is our goal to ensure a positive and safe experience for our guests. We do not recommend the tour if you have a life-threatening allergy to any of the items included, or have concerns regarding cross-contamination. Allergens which may be present vary by tour location and items offered, and may include (but not be limited to) milk, eggs, wheat/gluten soy, peanuts, tree nuts, nut oils, fish, or shellfish.
Tours have been designed to highlight specific beverages and/or foods from each establishment. And, there isn’t always a “next best” option that can meet the special dietary needs of each and every one of our guests. As such we are unable to offer substitutions for any of the offerings. There are no refunds for not partaking in any part of the tour. We are sorry if this is an inconvenience and appreciate your understanding of this policy. Are there ever any cancellations or modifications?
Tours as advertised may be modified for various reasons, including (but not limited to) changes to ensure/improve guest safety or accessibility, inclement weather, issues which may impact access to tour locations (i.e. construction, flooding, street closure, facility closure, etc.) or other factors which may be unknown or out of the control of tour operator.
